Many of our users don't take advantage of the versatility of this instrument. The Model 1140 Micro-Separometer can be used to perform the tests on fuels covered in the following ASTM standards: D3948-detect the presence of surfactants in aviation turbine fuel (without additives) as required by Specifications D1655,D6615 and D7566. D7224-detect the presence of surfactants in aviation turbine fuels with additives. D7261-detect the presence of surfactants in diesel fuel with or without additive. D4860-provides a numerical rating (clear and bright) of free water in either aviation turbine or diesel fuels. This test takes the place of the visual inspection (clear and bright) performed in D4176. NOTE-the fuels tested under these standards include aviation turbine, aviation turbine with additive, diesel, diesel with additive, and middle distillates.
IMPORTANT-The critical variable in performing these tests is the use of the proper EMCEE Coalescer Cell. The "Alumicel Coalescer" must be used for aviation turbine fuel in D3948, but the "M-Cell Coalescer" must be used for aviation turbine containing additive in D7224. Similiarly, the "D-Cell Coalescer" must be used for diesel and diesel with additive in D7261, but the "Clear & Bright Coalescer" must be used for aviation turbine and diesel fuels in D4860.
